Our Story

GraderIQ was born out of the frustration every collector knows too well. Our founder built the first version of GraderIQ the day his stone-cold 10 came back an 8 and his wallet paid the slab tax. Before every submission, friends would hop on FaceTimes or pile into someone’s living room, passing “grails” around with hopeful eyes, convincing themselves this one’s a 10.

Then came the long wait, 45, 60, even 90 days, only for the slab to arrive with a 9, or worse, an 8 (OUCH). Do that ten times, and the sting adds up between grading fees, lost time, and the hollow feeling when your dream card doesn’t hit.

Searching for tools, all that was out there felt like guesswork. No transparency, no probability, no way to understand the odds before slabbing. So our founder rolled up his sleeves, taught himself to code, dove into machine learning, and built an app that could read the front and back of a card and return real, data-backed probabilities. First, it helped him and his friends, then he realized collectors everywhere shared the same struggle. That’s when GraderIQ became more than a project, it became a mission.

GraderIQ exists so every collector, from kids to seasoned veterans, can scan, see the odds, and make smarter choices: slab or sell with confidence. Know before you slab.

Why AI?

Our founder’s background lies deep in healthcare IT, where AI and machine learning aren’t buzzwords, they’re daily tools that help improve patient care. In hospitals and clinics, AI/ML is used to analyze diagnostic images and spot microscopic details that are often invisible to the human eye. These insights can change treatments, outcomes, and even save lives.

Working with this technology day in and day out, our founder saw firsthand how powerful AI/ML could be when applied to problems of accuracy, detail, and trust. One day, the thought clicked: if AI can detect subtle patterns in medical scans, why couldn’t it also detect the nuances of a trading card?

That realization sparked the creation of GraderIQ. By adapting proven AI/ML image analysis techniques to the hobby we love, GraderIQ gives collectors the same kind of precision that healthcare professionals rely on, only now, it’s used to evaluate cards instead of CT scans.

It’s the same spirit of innovation, redirected toward the passion of collecting. Because if AI/ML can help diagnose patients, it can certainly help collectors understand their cards before sending them off to be slabbed.
